Becoming a registered childminder in Torfaen

There are currently 46 registered childminders in Torfaen and there is potential for this to increase.

Becoming a registered childminder offers lots of benefits including being your own employer, flexibility with own family commitments, looking after small groups of children and providing quality childcare from your own home.

Tahera Begum from Cwmbran is one of the latest childminders to have become registered and has received further support from Torfaen's Childcare Team and Communities for Work+ in setting up her business. Watch the video

Tahera said, "Working with children and having the opportunity to be my own boss were, for me,  the main reasons why I decided to become a childminder. I received a comprehensive package of support from the Family Information Service and Communities for Work+ provided training and funding towards marketing and promotional materials. They also provided me with a solid business plan and i am very grateful for the support i received."

If you think that childminding is for you, you will need to attend a childminder briefing session. The next set of childminder briefing dates are 16 April, 6pm - 8pm and 14 May, 1pm - 3pm.

Childminder briefing sessions will give you the opportunity to meet the team and to discuss the application process.
